The Lady Warriors brought home the hardware on Saturday after a competitive day at the Attica Invitational. This is the second year Winamac has participated in the invitational and was definitely a day to remember. Winamac's first match was against Schlarman Academy (Danville, IL) which they swept in two sets (25-11, 25-19). That match was followed by taking on the host team, Attica, that ended with another two set sweep (25-22, 25-14). Going into match three 2-0, the Warriors were feeling confident and ready to finish the day strong against the toughest opponent of the day, West Vigo. With a tall front line, Winamac knew they would have to be on their A game. A breakdown of serve receive in the first set led to a hole the Warriors struggled to climb out of and ended the set 22-25. Set two saw better serve receive, but Winamac had a hard time finding the court offensively, and eventually lost the second set 25-14 after a string of unforced errors. With each team ending the day 2-1, the tie-breaker came down to points allowed. While the tournament wasn't an outright win, the Warriors battled hard enough in the first two sets to have the least points allowed against them and took home the trophy! "The adjustment that we made to our line up this past week has really showed us what we're able to do both offensively and defensively when we're running on all cylinders. It was evident in the third set of the Rochester game Thursday, as well as all day Saturday. We are definitely peaking as we head into preparing for the winner of the Bremen/LaVille match up in sectionals," Coach Kasten said. Leaders on Saturday included Ava Malchow with 14 kills, Grace Roth with 13 and Mylie Foster and Brooke Rausch each adding 12 a piece. Freshman Jordan Compton has 7 kills and 7 digs plus an ace on Saturday. Serving proved to be a strength for the Warriors with Brooke Rausch and Abby Keller each rattling off 6 aces and Grace Roth and Kylie Fisher added another 4 a piece. Maggie Keller led the team defensively with 26 digs, while Rausch and Roth were right behind her with 19 and 16, respectively. A. Keller had a whopping 47 assists for the day and Roth led blocking stats with 2 block assists.
