Volleyball Hosts County Rivals

By Heather Kasten | Sep 11, 2025 7:14 AM

The Lady Warriors hosted county rivals, West Central, Tuesday night. Winamac came out strong in set 1, topping the Trojans 25-19. Set two had the Trojans coming back strong after a back and forth start, ending with Winamac falling 20-25. The most exciting set was a battle of extra points, with a 24-26 final for West Central. Set four wasn't any less of a fight, but a string of offensive errors put the Warriors behind too late in the game and the girls' Tomahawk stayed with West Central for this year. "Every single thing we've been working on to prepare for West Central and Caston's middle hitters was carried out this match - just not always consistently. Once defense did an absolutely amazing job of keeping the ball alive and feeding our hitters as much as possible. We swung more against West Central than we have against many teams - we just have to build that consistency and that only comes with more and more touches. We're getting there though!" quoted Coach Kasten. Abby Keller dished out 32 assists, 7 digs and 3 kills. Grace Roth led the offense with 10 kills, while Ava Malchow added 8 and Brooke Rausch contributed 7 kills for the night. Rausch was the leader defensively with 16 digs, followed by Kylie Fisher with 11, Grace Roth with 9 and Audrey Dickinson with 8. Roth was top server for the Warriors, with 5 aces on her 17 attempts over the 4 set match. Jordyn Hounchell, Jaelyn Huddleston, Rausch and Fisher each contributed 2 aces a piece, stepping up the Warriors serving game that plagued them early in the season. Winamac is back in action with a home conference game Thursday against Caston and Monday against North Miami.
