The Lady Warriors traveled to Culver last night to take on the Cavaliers in Winamac's first conference match up of the season. The Junior Varsity started the night off right with two strong wins (25-15, 25-16), making them 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the conference. The varsity match up was a battle, eventually ending in a 5th set loss by Winamac (25-11, 12-25, 18-25, 25-19, 7-15). Though the score might not have been in the Warrior's favor, everything else seemed to click on the court. Freshmen Abby Keller, Kylie Fisher and Jordan Compton stepped up and were solid starters for the Winamac varsity. Keller ended the night with 28 assists, 11 digs and two perfect pancakes to fire up the Warrior's scrappiness. Fisher added a whopping 5 aces and 6 digs, while Compton had an ace, 2 kills and 6 digs. Other big contributors for the Warriors were Grace Roth with 6 aces and a perfect serving record for the night. She also dished out 8 kills and 14 digs. Ava Malchow led both offense and defense with 10 kills and 15 digs, while serving up 3 aces from behind the serving line. Senior Brooke Rausch played a strong game and rounded out the Warriors's front line with 9 kills, and stepped up in back row with 13 digs. Coach Kasten commented on the night: "This is by far the most confident and cohesive we've played yet this year. Everyone played their role and played it well - all around players, subs, the bench - there wasn't a Warrior who wasn't supporting a teammate last night and it showed in how we played. They came to get a job done, and while the score doesn't reflect it, they got the job done in my eyes."
