Winamac Warriors Varsity Fights Back In Loss To Pioneer

Winamac Warriors Varsity fought back after falling down by seven runs in the sixth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 13-12 defeat to Pioneer on Tuesday. Winamac Warriors Varsity scored six runs in the failed comeback on a grand slam by Emma Goodman, a single by Piper Link, and a single by Isabelle Decker. Winamac Warriors Varsity was right in it until Pioneer singled in the fifth inning. Pioneer opened up scoring in the first inning, when Kylie Attinger singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Winamac Warriors Varsity notched six runs in the seventh inning. Goodman, Link, and Decker each had RBIs in the big inning. Tiara Denny led the Pioneer to victory in the pitcher's circle. The hurler surrendered eight runs on 11 hits over seven innings, striking out three. McKenzie Hinz took the loss for Winamac Warriors Varsity. The bulldog lasted seven innings, allowing 16 hits and 13 runs while striking out three. Shaylee Goings started the game for Pioneer. The ace allowed four runs on three hits and walked zero Winamac Warriors Varsity smacked two home runs on the day. Hinz went for the long ball in the first inning. Goodman had a long ball in the seventh inning. Winamac Warriors Varsity racked up 14 hits in the game. Decker, Link, Corrin Combs, Hinz, and Makayla Werner each had multiple hits for Winamac Warriors Varsity. Werner, Hinz, Combs, Link, and Decker each collected two hits to lead Winamac Warriors Varsity. Pioneer tallied 16 hits.
