The Lady Warriors traveled to North Miami Saturday morning for a full day of volleyball. They started off against a consistent Peru team that proved strong on their serve, forcing the Warriors to make several serve-receive adjustments. At the end of two sets, Peru took the match ( 18-25, 15-25). Winamac turned around and played a tall Northwestern team, letting the Warriors demonstrate their strength in defense. However, a lack of hitter-setter connection led to the second loss of the day for the Warriors with Northwestern winning in 2 sets ( 17-25, 14-25). Heading into the bronze bracket for the afternoon, Winamac drew a very tall and talented Oak Hill team for their first match up. Oak Hill, coming off a tough 3 set match against second place team, Tippy Valley, was inconsistent in their offense, leading to the Warriors battling point for point for most of the first and second set. While Winamac had a few good strings of points, they came up short in two sets (13-25, 11-25) The final game of the day was against the Oracles of Delphi. Winamac came out with some line up changes and determined to finish the day on a strong note. Freshman, Abby Keller led the offense that match and helped put the Warriors ahead to win set 1 (25-21). Set 2 found more struggles on serve receive and utilizing the offense, ending with the Warriors taking it to set 3 with a loss of (22-25). Winamac proved their toughness by taking set 3 to extra points and coming out on top with a final score of 17-15 for the match win. Leading the Warriors for the day was Brooke Rausch with 11 kills, 17 digs and 2 blocks. Sophomores Grace Roth and Ava Malchow each added 6 and 8 kills, respectively, with Roth contributing a team high 18 digs and 2 block assists. Senior, Hannah Meyer, led the team in aces with 5. Freshman Abby Keller had 8 assists, 2 aces and 5 digs, while freshman Kylie Fisher added another 18 digs and 2 assists. The Warriors have their season home opener this Thursday at 6:00 against North Miami.
