Lady Warriors Fall to Tough Bomber Squad

Winamac traveled to Rensselaer last night to take on the Bombers in their second road match of the week. The Junior Varsity had to make some line up adjustments with the absence of freshman, Lillian Dell, due to illness, and came up short in both sets. Addi Redweik and Alena Day contributed 4 digs a piece, as well as Jordon Compton adding 6 digs and 3 kills. Abby Keller and Kylie Fisher each had 4 assists and added 6 and 5 digs respectively. The varsity stepped out with a strong defensive game plan against the heavy hitting outsides for Rensselaer, but struggles on serve-receive and offensive connections ended in a 3 set loss for the Warriors (13-25, 8-25, 10-25). Freshmen Abby Keller and Kylie Fisher stepped up to bail the Warriors out on all fronts with Keller taking up the setter position with junior Jaelyn Huddleston and Kylie Fisher dishing out 5 digs as libero for senior Mylie Foster. Foster led the offense with 5 kills, followed by sophomore Grace Roth with 4 kills. Malchow and Meyer each added an ace for the night and Roth hitting the floor for a team high of 12 digs. "The girls did everything we studied and worked on in practice to give us the best shot against Rensselaer. We pushed the pins and hit the line on our outsides every chance we had. We kept the ball out of their libero's hands better than we have yet this season. Grace Roth was unstoppable on defense - nothing hit the floor without a body. They were just bigger and ran a cleaner offense." quoted Coach Kasten. The Warriors hit the road again Saturday for the annual Tomahawk Tournament at North Miami High School where they will start the day facing off against Peru and Northwestern.
