The Winamac cross country teams opened their 2025 campaign with an impressive showing at the Rochester Hokum Karem, highlighted by a boys team victory and a strong runner-up finish for the girls. The unique relay-style race, run over a hilly one-mile loop in alternating fashion, provided the Warriors with an early test — and they delivered. Top Scorer – Boys Duo Leads the Way The boys’ race was headlined by Nate Pierzchalski and Logan Fredel, who became the first boys’ pair to cross the line in the 6x1 mile alternating relay. Their aggressive pacing gave Winamac the early edge and set the tone for the rest of the squad. Boys First Place Nate Pierzchalski & Logan Fredel – First boys’ duo overall Joel Showley & Paxton Moon – Nearly edged Rochester’s top team, finishing just behind for a strong supporting score The combined efforts sealed the team victory for the Warriors, showing depth beyond the lead pairing. Girls Second Place The Lady Warriors also made their mark, finishing second overall to Rochester in a competitive field. Avery Wegner & Kandace Kroft – Led the Winamac girls with a strong finish Maddy Goodman & Roni Garbison – Surged past both Miami duos, proving the team’s depth and resilience on the hills Recap With the boys taking the top spot and the girls showing strength with a runner-up team finish, the Warriors demonstrated both talent and depth to start the season. The Rochester Hokum Karem gave Winamac the perfect springboard into 2025, showing they are ready to compete at a high level in the weeks ahead.
