The Winamac Girls Track and Field team turned in a strong performance at the HNAC Conference Meet on Tuesday, earning a second-place team finish with a total of 110.5 points. The Warriors were led by a combination of veteran consistency, breakout personal bests, and impressive relay efforts across the board. Top Scorer: Senior Kadence Hoover was the team's top scorer and top conference individual scorer for the night, contributing 30.5 points with dominant wins in the 1600m (5:43.70) and 3200m (13:55.67), and a runner-up finish in the 800m (2:41.84). Her contributions also kicked off the 4x800 relay to a conference title. Relay Highlights: 4x800 Relay (1st place, 11:19.24): The squad of Kadence Hoover, Maci Earp, Claire Goodman, and Avery Wegner opened the meet with a powerful performance, pulling away early to secure the conference title and 10 crucial points. 4x100 Relay (6th place, 57.33): The team of Madelyn Goodman, Maci Earp, Mylie Foster, and Emily Weaver earned 3 points with solid handoffs and clean execution in a competitive field. 4x400 Relay (2nd place, 4:27.73): In one of the closest races of the evening, the group of Sadie Popejoy, Ava Malchow, Madelyn Goodman, and Avery Wegner delivered a dramatic season-best performance, surging in the final stretch to edge out several teams, narrowly missing the title by .28 seconds and secure 8 points. Additional Standouts: Claire Goodman contributed 22.5 points with runner-up finishes in both the 1600m and 3200m, and a fifth-place finish in the 800m. Which made her the second highest individual scorer of the Conference. Sadie Popejoy scored 16 points across four events, taking 3rd in the 200m, 4th in the Discus, 6th in the 100m, and running a key leg in the 4x400. Avery Wegner added 12.5 points in the 400m (2nd place) and played a key role on both the 4x800 and 4x400 relays. Ava Malchow secured 7.5 points with a strong 4th-place run in the 400m and anchored a leg of the season-best 4x400. Mylie Foster scored in both the 300m hurdles (7th) and long jump (8th). Also, she had a leg in the scoring of the 4x100 relay team. Kandace Kroft contributed a point in the 300m hurdles and also competed in the high jump. Ally Campbell and Jordyn Hounchell each scored in the pole vault, with Campbell also adding a point in the 100m hurdles. Sierra Haschel in the throws and Mershai Loehmer in the 100 hurdles had a strong showing as well. Winamac’s strong performance was fueled by balance—between distance and sprint events, youth and experience, and individual grit and team chemistry. With continued momentum, the Lady Warriors are poised for a strong finish as they enter the Sectional meet Tuesday May 20th.
