Winamac Hosts Triton Volleyball 9/24

By Heather Kasten | Sep 25, 2024 7:18 AM

The Triton Trojans came to Winamac last night in an exciting HNAC contest. The junior varsity started off slow, dropping the first set 19-25. However, set two proved very different with a 16-0 serving run by Jocelyn Kain, keeping the Warriors well ahead of the Trojans to end set two 25-8. Set three was a back and forth battle, until a rotation five gave the Warriors some trouble on serve receive. They battled back and Lila Lavender stepped up to the serving line at 9-14 and tied the game at 14 all. Unfortunately, the score cap rule came into play in advantage of the Trojans, who won on a hitting error by the Warriors. JV stat leaders for the night were Kallie Kasten with 4 kills, 3 digs and an ace. Jocelyn Kain with 6 aces, 12 digs and a kill. Scarlett Browning with 7 digs and a kill. The Winamac varsity squad took the floor with more enthusiasm and drive than the previous night's game, which proved to be a game changer in their performance on the floor. While Winamac ultimately dropped the conference match in three sets (19-25, 16-25, 13-25), they rallied hard and played scrappy, making Triton work for every point they earned. "I'm really proud of how they were able to turn it around from last night's match. It's hard when this many losses are strung together, but they proved last night that when we're in the right mind set and play smart, we can do great things against really great teams." 6'1'' senior outside hitter, Mya Davis, and 5'11'' outside hitter, junior, Avery Viers, didn't give the Warriors as much trouble as they anticipated with three blocks from Marissa Iverson and one added by Brooke Rausch and Mylie Foster each. Maggie Keller led the defense with 12 digs, while Grace Roth and Brooke Rausch each added another 8. Linzy Walters was able to find 19 assists with 10 of those coming from freshman, Ava Malchow on the outside. Marissa Iverson added another 4 kills and Mylie Foster tacked on 3 more kills. Serving percentages were highly improved, with three different Warriors hitting 100% and Walters, Rausch and Ally Campbell each taking an ace against the Trojans. Winamac is back in action tomorrow night at Pioneer at 6:00 PM.
