Winamac Volleyball honored some of their greatest supporters last night at their home match against Oregon-Davis. The Grandparents Night celebration ended in success for both squads, with JV and Varsity both taking wins over the Bobcats. The Junior Varsity ended the night with a two-set win (25-21, 25-23) and Varsity completed a 4-set battle to come out on top (25-21, 25-23, 26-28 and 25-11). Set one was a pretty even battle, back and forth, until the Warriors were down 11-15 and Ally Campbell stepped behind the service line to rattle off a string of serves to tie the game. Winamac continued to battle hard and consistently put the ball in play to complete the first set. Set two had the Bobcats on top 11-5 early in the set, with some mental errors aiding the OD offense. Winamac struggled to gain and keep momentum through most of the second set, eventually getting down by as much as 7 points. Ally Campbell stepped up again and caught the Warriors up, making it 16-17. Some great offensive decisions and quick reflexes by the defensive coverage helped the Warriors pull out the win in set 2. Set 3 had a rocky start with the Warriors in a serve-receive hole early and down 3-13. After a few good plays falling in favor of Winamac, libero Maggie Keller stepped behind the line and battled hard for fourteen consecutive serves, holding the service record for the night. However, the Bobcats weren't giving up easily, and continued to battle back, taking the set into extra points and eventually winning set 3, 28-26. "If we don't dig that hole on serve receive early in the set, they don't get double digits that match. Maggie Keller locked in and was on fire behind the service line, our coverage for our hitters was top notch and our energy and communication was huge. We just lost our footing for a little too long at the beginning. I'm extremely proud of how they rallied back and carried that energy over into set 4," quotes coach Heather Kasten. Marissa Iverson led offensively last night with 7 kills and 4 blocks. Brooke Rausch and Mylie Foster each had 6 kills and Ally Campbell contributed 5. Maggie Keller not only had a whopping 8 aces on the night, she also dished out 19 digs. Linzy Walters delivered 22 assists and 3 aces. Foster also had 5 aces to help the Warriors come out on top.
