Warriors Drop Final Match at Logansport

Logansport hosted the Winamac Warriors for both teams' final match of the regular season last night. The 4A Berries came in at a whopping 0-27 record, while the Warriors had 6 wins under their belts so far. After senior night festivities were said and done, the Warriors looked a little intimidated to be playing in the Berry Bowl. Ending the first set at 11-25, Winamac knew they had to find the court in order to make the plays they wanted to make. Four of the teams' seven serving errors came in the first set, so the Warriors set out to fix the little things. Set two proved better with fewer service errors and lots of hustle and determination. "I hadn't seen us hustle that hard and play that cohesively since the first week of the season. It was a beautiful thing to see being a week out from sectionals." claims Coach Kasten. At a score of 21-20 in favor of the Warriors, officials put a stop to the Warriors comeback with an illegal substitution call from an injury substitution 4 rotations previous. "It would have been a different ball game if Piper would have gotten to serve that point. It completely swept away our momentum. We win that point, we take that set, and the next. It was pivotal." The Warriors ended up giving the Berries their only win of the season with scores of 11-25, 21-25 and 19-25. McKenzie Hinz led the Winamac offense with 10 kills and 3 blocks. She also added 8 digs to the defense, along with 7 digs from Linzy Walters and 6 from Sarah Fort. The Warriors will take the week to prepare for their sectional bye and take on the winner of Rochester vs. North Miami at Rochester on the 15th.
