The Lady Warriors took on the Lewis Cass Kings last night and after a hard fought five-set battle, came out on top! Winamac took set one 25-20, then dropped the next two 19-25 and 11-25. Luckily, the Warriors found their fight and battled back late in set 4 to come out on top at 25-23. Their momentum continued into set 5, leaving the Kings in single digits at 15-8. The Warriors were led offensively by Brooke Rausch with 12 kills, Marissa Iverson with 7 and freshman, Ava Malchow with 6 kills. While serving was a struggle throughout most of the match, Maggie Keller managed to rattle off 5 aces, while Rausch and Grace Roth added 2 a piece. Defensive is where the Warriors really shined last night. Linzy Walters and Roth both had 10 digs a piece, while Maggie Keller topped out at 11 digs. Ally Campbell and Rausch each added 9 digs a piece. "I am so proud of how the girls dug in and found their fight tonight. The mental aspect of the game has been our biggest battle and their showing growth in it every time they step on the court. I'm especially proud of how they played for each other and are starting to gel as a team. It's a fun thing to watch!" quoted Coach Heather Kasten. The Junior Varsity also had their home opener against the Kings, but fell in two sets. The Lady Warriors are back in action tomorrow night at home against Rensselaer at 6:30 PM!
