Warriors Defeat Bobcats in Four Sets
By Heather Kasten | Sep 16, 2022 7:12 AM
The Oregon-Davis Bobcats put up a better fight than anticipated, but the Lady Warriors came out on top with a hard fought battle in 4 sets. After a few line up changes for missing starter Piper Link and several lead changes in set one, Winamac took the Bobcats in extra points (26-24). Then set two was all too familiar for the Warriors. A chain of serve-receive errors and several hitting errors left Winamac doubting themselves and struggling to put plays together. The second set ended 10-25 in favor of the Bobcats, but Winamac didn't let that last long. "I am so proud of how the girls got together as a team and decided that they were going to prove they were the better team. We talked out some miscommunications, made some line up adjustments and the girls on the court led by example. It was a much more cohesive unit than what we've been seeing." said Coach Kasten. Freshman Sarah Fort made an appearance on the outside, as well as sophomore Mershai Loehmer in the backrow. "Scrappy teams like OD are good ways for us to get our underclassmen the experience they need. The speed is still so much more than a C-Team or JV, especially on our side, and it really helps them see how our varsity runs." explains Coach Kasten. The Warriors pulled out the last two sets at 25-19 and 25-21. At the top of the leaderboard last night was McKenzie Hinz with 12 kills, 10 digs and a block. Linzy Walters with 8 digs and 14 assists. Sarah Fort with 8 kills and 5 digs. Lauren Fredel with 16 asissts and 6 digs. Serving strong for the Warriors were Hailey Attinger with 4 aces and Raegan Kasten with 3. Attinger also added 5 kills and a block for the Warriors. Winamac will be back in action all next week. Monday September 19th at home against Tri-Township (LaCrosse), Tuesday September 20th at home against Triton for Block Out Cancer Night and Thursday September 22nd at Pioneer.
