Winamac Athletics- WARRIOR MENTALITY

The Lady Warriors traveled to Kankakee Valley on Saturday morning for the annual KV Invite. The tournament hosted 4A schools like Lowell, Merrillville, Kankakee Valley and Griffith. The Warriors started out strong by putting a much anticipated and well deserved win under their belts, beating former sectional opponent Hebron in 3 sets (25-18, 12-25 and 15-13). The next match against a tall, tough KV team didn't end as well, but Winamac placed 4th overall, ending the day with a 3 set loss to Lowell (19-25, 26-24, 8-15) in the silver bracket. Senior middle hitter, McKenzie Hinz earned the honor of being named to the Kankakee Valley Invitational All Tournament team. Hinz ended the tournament with 27 kills, 3 blocks, 8 aces and 12 digs. Other big contributions to the Warriors were junior Piper Link with 10 kills and 12 digs. Ally Campbell and Raegan Kasten added 11 digs apiece while Lauren Fredel dished out 43 assists, 13 digs and 2 aces. Freshman Brooke Rausch showed her skills off by adding 6 kills and 4 digs to round out the Warriors day. Winamac volleyball will be back in action at West Central on Tuesday September 6th starting at 6:00.
