Winamac Volleyball Hosts Cavs

The lady Warriors hosted their first conference match of the season against the Culver Cavaliers. While coming out to a very slow start (dropping the set 14-25), Winamac picked up their game in sets 2 and 3. However, the long rallies and aggressive swings from hitters like Brynn Berndt and Grace Sieber for the Cavs, left the Warriors starting 0-1 in the HNAC with losses of 23-25 and 21-25. "I thought, 'Just give up already!", quoted coach Andrea Berndt for Culver. The Warriors did just that - they kept coming, even after having such a rough first set. "I think we were a little amped up about it being conference play and not getting to practice the day before due to power outages threw us for a loop, too. Once we settled into our game in set 2, things were much different," claims Winamac's Coach Kasten. Winamac ended the night with a total of 23 kills - 12 of which came from senior, McKenzie Hinz, 3 from Hailey Attinger, and 4 setter dump kills from Lauren Fredel. Serving was a bit of a struggle in set one, but Hinz ended the night with 3 aces and Fredel with 2. Freshman Brooke Rausch had a nice defensive match with 3 blocks, as did sophomore Ally Campbell with 11 digs. The Warriors are back in conference action this Thursday at home against Knox, starting at 6:00 PM.
