Winamac continues to roll through their tough line up of historically strong volleyball programs with another loss to Morgan Township last night. Anyone in the gym wouldn't have known Winamac walked away with a 3 set loss, though. The Warriors battled early in set one, keeping it back and forth and tying at 7-7. A few missed serves and miscommunications on defense let Morgan Township take a 18-10 lead later on, finishing set one 13-25 in their favor. Winamac didn't let that phase them and came out strong in set two, stringing point after point together and gaining a 13-4 lead early on. Winamac held the lead until 21-21. Again, mental errors found their way in to leave Winamac longing for a win at 21-25. With set three, the Warriors could have very easily given up, but they continued to ramp up their energy and give it their all. While finishing the set 18-25, Coach Kasten still wasn't upset at the effort and communication that happened on the floor. "We have a very tough schedule for such a young team this year. We roll through most of the TRC conference and a lot of teams from the region before we're even halfway through the season. The fact that we're competing - really well actually - with those historically strong programs without having a lot of big guns ourselves is really promising. We don't want to peak now - we want to still be climbing that hill toward sectionals and I think that's exactly what we're doing." The leaderboard for the night included Piper Link with 5 kills and 3 digs, Hailey Attinger with 6 digs and an ace, and Lauren Fredel with 4 digs, 14 assists, and TWO solo blocks. McKenzie Hinz added 9 kills, an ace and 4 digs. The Lady Warriors travel to Northfield on Saturday for the JV/Varsity invite where they will face Eastern, Northfield and Lewis Cass.
