NEW PRAIRIE, Ind. — Winamac freshman Brody Bonnell put the finishing touches on an outstanding debut cross country season Saturday, competing against some of the area's top runners at the IHSAA Regional Championship at New Prairie. Bonnell crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 30 seconds, placing 165th overall and bringing an impressive freshman campaign to a close. For Bonnell, simply reaching the regional stage as a freshman was an accomplishment worth celebrating. Competing against experienced runners, including many upperclassmen, Bonnell demonstrated the determination, toughness, and competitive spirit that helped define his first season in a Winamac uniform. Throughout the fall, Bonnell established himself as a promising young runner with a bright future ahead. His regional appearance provided valuable postseason experience and an opportunity to measure himself against some of the best competition in northern Indiana. While Saturday marked the end of his freshman campaign, it also offered a glimpse of what could lie ahead. With three years of high school competition remaining, Bonnell has plenty of time to continue developing his strength, speed, and racing experience. As the curtain closes on an astonishing first year, one thing is certain: Brody Bonnell has laid a strong foundation for the future, and his journey in a Winamac uniform is only beginning.
