Winamac Athletics- Home of the Warriors

The Winamac Community High School girls' track and field team traveled to Rensselaer Central on May 5, 2026, delivering a series of standout performances led by multi-event winners and strong relay showings. Despite the cold, the rain, and a competitive field, several Winamac athletes secured top finishes across sprints, distance races, and field events. Winamac Dominates Distance Events Avery Wegner was a powerhouse for the Warriors, sweeping the individual distance categories. Her endurance was on full display as she claimed first place in three separate events: 800 Meter Run: 1st place with a time of 2:53.78. 1600 Meter Run: 1st place with a time of 6:03.56. 3200 Meter Run: 1st place with a time of 14:22.70. Field Event Highlights The Warriors also saw success in the field, particularly in the throwing and jumping pits: Discus Throw: Sadie Popejoy dominated the competition with a throw of 103-01, winning the event by nearly 30 feet. High Jump: Kandace Kroft took the top spot, clearing a height of 4-08.00. Pole Vault: Jordyn Hounchell secured a second-place tie, clearing 6-00.00. Sprint and Hurdle Success Winamac's speedsters kept the pressure on Rensselaer throughout the evening: 100 Meter Dash: Sadie Popejoy showcased her versatility by winning the dash in 13.25 seconds. 300 Meter Hurdles: Kandace Kroft earned another victory for Winamac, crossing the finish line in 54.87 seconds. 200 Meter Dash: Katelyn Burgess finished strong in 2nd place with a time of 28.96. 400 Meter Dash: Sadie Popejoy (2nd, 1:06.05) and Katelyn Burgess (4th, 1:10.03) both placed in the top four. Relay Efforts The Warriors fielded competitive teams in the relay events, showing great teamwork and coordination: 4x800 Meter Relay: The team of Maci Earp, Madelyn Goodman, Roni Garbison, and Kandace Kroft raced a time of 12:48.01. 4x400 Meter Relay: featuring Sadie Popejoy, Maci Earp, Kandace Kroft, and Avery Wegner, finished in 4:36.16 to close out the meet.
