The Winamac Community High School girls' track and field team put on a clinic of speed, endurance, and technical skill Tuesday night, securing a decisive victory in a three-way meet against LaVille and South Bend Career Academy. The Lady Warriors utilized their deep roster to rack up points across every discipline, proving too much for the Lancers and the Trailblazers to handle. Popejoy and Wegner Lead the Charge The meet was highlighted by two standout "double-winners." Sadie Popejoy showed incredible range by winning both the 200-meter dash (27.64) and the Discus (101'). Her dominant performance in the field and sprints was matched on the track by Avery Wegner, who was dominant in the middle-distance events, capturing first place in both the 800-meter run (2:31.46) and the 1600-meter run (5:37.43). Strength in the Field and Hurdles Winamac’s field event crew set the tone early. Kandace Kroft soared to a first-place finish in the High Jump with a mark of 4'10", while also showing her versatility on the track with a second-place finish in the 300m hurdles (53.84). Jordyn Hounchell added to the field event point total with a strong second-place effort in the Pole Vault (6'0"), and Mylie Foster chipped in with a fourth-place finish in the Long Jump (13'5"). In the hurdles, Addison Redweik raced to a second-place finish in the 100m hurdles (21.11), narrowly leading teammate Jordyn Hounchell, who crossed the line in fourth. Relay Sweeps and Distance Dominance The Warriors' relay teams were the backbone of the victory. The 4 x 800m relay squad (Kroft, Maci Earp, Madelyn Goodman, and Wegner) and the 4 x 400m relay team (Wegner, Kroft, Earp, and Popejoy) both took home first-place honors. The distance dominance continued into the longest event of the night, the 3200-meter run, where Roni Garbison took the top spot with a time of 16:07.49, followed closely by Micaela Godina in second place to complete the Winamac sweep of the event. Sprint Depth Secures the Win Winamac’s sprinters ensured no points were left on the table. Maci Earp blazed to a win in the 400-meter dash (1:09.74), with teammate Katelyn Burgess finishing right behind her in second. In the 100-meter dash, Popejoy and Burgess combined for a 3-4 finish to keep the momentum squarely in Winamac's favor. With a balanced attack and high-point performances in nearly every event, the Lady Warriors continue their strong spring season as they look toward the upcoming conference championships. Winamac Scoring Highlights: Total Individual Event Wins: 7 (Avery Wegner 2, Sadie Popejoy 2, Maci Earp 1, Roni Garbison 1, Kandace Kroft 1) Total Relay Wins: 2 (4x800, 4x400)
