Winamac Girls tie in 4-Way

In a display of pure competitive spirit, the Winamac Community High School girls' track and field team fought to a stunning 79-79 tie for first place against Triton High School during the four-way meet held on Thursday, April 16, 2026. The Lady Warriors shared the top of the podium in a field that also included Culver Community (57 points) and Argos (28 points). Popejoy Dominates the Track: Top spot of the day for Winamac was undoubtedly Sadie Popejoy, who proved to be a nearly unstoppable force across multiple disciplines. Popejoy secured individual victories in: 100 Meters: Blazing to a time of 13.13. 200 Meters: Taking the top spot at 27.45. 400 Meters: Crossing the finish line in 1:08.02. Not content with just sprinting, Popejoy also showcased her strength in the field, winning the Discus with a throw of 90' 3". Distance and Field Excellence Avery Wegner mirrored Popejoy’s dominance in the distance events, sweeping the long-distance categories for the Lady Warriors. Wegner claimed first place in: 800 Meters: Finishing in 2:39.24. 1600 Meters: Winning with a time of 6:22.13. 3200 Meters: Capping off her day with a victory at 12:57.55. In the field, Kandace Kroft cleared 4' 8" to win the High Jump. Mylie Foster also added a first place performance in the Long Jump, leaping 13' 6" to take first place. Team Effort Secures the Tie The Lady Warriors’ depth was on full display through a total team effort in the relay events and secondary scoring: Relays: Winamac took second place in both the 4 x 400m (4:49.01) and 4 x 800m (12:08.43) relays , while the 4 x 100m team finished fourth (58.47). Vital Points: Lillian Dell earned a 3rd place finish in the Shot Put (24' 0") , and Roni Garbison secured 3rd in the 3200m (16:48.30).Supporting the Score: Crucial contributions also came from Maci Earp (3rd in the 400m) , Katelyn Burgess (4th in the 100m and 300m hurdles) , Kandace Kroft (4th in the 800m) , and Madelyn Goodman (4th in the 200m). Additional Depth: Points were further bolstered by Micaela Godina (5th in the 3200m) and Addison Redweik (6th in the 200m). The lineup was rounded out by determined performances from Jordyn Hounchell, Alia Gourley, Alison Vides, Ava Calabrese, and Alena Day across the hurdles and throwing events. Together, these efforts provided the essential points needed to match Triton’s final score and secure a share of the meet title.
