Volleyball Travels to Cass

By Heather Kasten | Aug 16, 2023 7:02 AM

The Lady Warriors traveled to Walton last night to take on the Lady Kings in an exciting 3 set match. The Warriors came out strong against Lewis Cass, battling point for point for the first half of set one. Senior King Haley Miller rattled off a handful of serves to give the Kings a lead that the Warriors struggled to overcome, losing set one 19-25. That didn't stop Winamac as they came back with fire for set two, dishing out 7 lead changes in an exciting 24-26 loss after some tough calls by the officials against the Warriors. Seniors Piper Link and Raegan Kasten held their team together for set three, fighting hard until the final point. The Warriors fell to the Kings in the third. While the scoreboard may reflect a loss, it was definitely a win in the eyes of the fans and coaching staff last night. "One of the most exciting games the Warriors have played in a long time. This is going to be a great year," claimed one fan. "Everything we've worked so hard to instill in our girls, finally came together last night. We covered our hitters well, we ran out of system plays aggressively, we controlled the game with our serve and our passing was phenomenal, giving our hitters a chance to really shine," claims Coach Kasten. "Lewis Cass was a solid team. We were evenly matched defensively - they just had the upper hand with their senior-heavy line up in the front row." The Warriors were led by Raegan Kasten defensively with 18 digs and an ace. Ally Campbell and Piper Link each added 9 digs along with 4 and 8 kills, respectively. Marissa Iverson found a groove in the front row with 2 blocks and 3 kills, while Brooke Rausch added an ace and 4 kills. Linzy Walters led the Warriors with 21 assists and 4 digs. The Warriors will take on the Bombers tomorrow night in Rensselaer starting at 6:30 PM.
